Steroids
Steroids are a part of every sport but none more than Bodybuilding. In the 1930s a team of scientists invented a synthetic form of testosterone. Testosterone is a male hormone. it was invented to treat men who didn't produce enough hormones for normal growth. In 1956 Melbourne, Australia the Russian Olympic team especially their wrestling team did amazingly well.
it was all thanks to the new drug, when Dr Zeigler and American Physician found out about this and created an even more effective form of steroids called Anabolic steroids. From then on steroids spread like wildfire. everyone in the Bodybuilding started doing it. you couldn't compete without steroids. Arnold Schwarzenegger said this about it "I have no regrets about it, because at that time, it was something new that came on the market, and we went to the doctor and did it under doctors' supervision." Congress passed the Steroid Enforcement Act of 1990 and that put a ban on use of steroids. It didn't stop the use of steroids and the are still in wide demand. The world doesn't seem to be able to control the use of steroids but on some level we all want our competitors to be on them.

Eugen Sandow began travelling Europe performing for massive crowds. He then traveled to America where he performed at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. he performed in a black velvet lined box with his body covered in chalk powder to even greater resemble the statues he modeled himself after. he also started a magazine called Sandow and it was a fitness magazine. He started his own bodybuilding show in 1891 called "The Great Show" it took him three years of planning. It was held in the United Kingdom the total prize money added up to $5000. He died in 1925 at the age of 58, there is an urban legend that he died trying to lift his car out of a ditch but he died because of syphilis.

ORIGINS, Eugen Sandow
Weightlifting has been around for centuries it can also be traced back to Ancient Greece. Athletes would train in a gymnasium however it wasn't to improve their bodies appearance but to improve athletic performance. Milo of Croton was a wrestler and he would carry a calf on his back everyday until it became a bull. Bodybuilding first came on the scene in the 11th century in India where they would carve out dumbells from stone for the purpose of getting bigger and stronger. But it didn't gain popularity for centuries to come. It was Eugen Sandow who maid it mainstream. He is known as the father of modern day Bodybuilding. By the time he was 19 years old he was already performing strongman stunts. But he realised people weren't looking at him lifting heavy weight the were more attracted to his physique. He then added posing routines to his performances which is the staple to modern day bodybuilding. Many people thought he had a godlike physique. This wasn't a coincident, when he was young he had visited Italy and after admiring the statues of the ancient gods his passion grew. He would measure the statues and use them as a blueprint for his body.

For my first blog I will start with the basics of bodybuilding.
What is bodybuilding? When some people think of bodybuilding they instantly think of oversized oiled up men posing on stage, that's not all it is although it is some of it. Its an art, a sport that takes place all over the world.
Wikipedia defines it as "The use of progressive resistance exercise to control and develop one's musculature. An individual who engages in this activity is referred to as a bodybuilder." In my own words I think it is someone who exercises regularly and eats well to achieve the perfect body in their own eyes. Lifting weights can be tracked all the way back to the Egyptians where they used to perform feats of strength by lifting heavy rocks and sacks from the ground over their head for a short period of time, which is an exercise now known as the clean and jerk. And the earliest records of weight lifting came from the 10th century B.C. China where military recruits had to pass weightlifting tests before they accepted.
